Wojtek! The bear who became a soldier

From 16 August 2026 to 4 April 2027, the family exhibition ‘Wojtek! The bear who became a soldier’ will be on display. In this exhibition, you’ll discover the unique and true story of an extraordinary bear who fought alongside the Polish army, became a hero and even had his own statue erected in Scotland.

In the exhibition, visitors experience the Second World War from the perspective of Wojtek and the Polish army. Wojtek was a motherless cub who was looked after by Polish soldiers and grew to become a true friend and comrade. He was officially enlisted in the army, served on the battlefield at Monte Cassino and ended up in Scotland at the end of the war. You can discover the journey Wojtek undertook (and why) in the exhibition. Interesting fact: Wojtek’s contribution to the war did not go unnoticed: the official emblem of the 22nd Artillery Supply Company became an image of a bear carrying a grenade.

Treasure Hunt

The exhibition includes a treasure hunt suitable for childeren aged 7 to 12. Find the clues, complete the tasks and learn more about Wojtek's life! This way, you can follow in Wojtek's footsteps. For our youngest visitors, there is a separate treasure hunt to help Wojtek find the different animals!
