A Suitcase Full of Choices

While searching for old items for school in the attic, Emma discovers a mysterious suitcase. The suitcase marks the beginning of a journey through the life of Emma's great-grandmother Lena.

Join Emma on a journey of discovery through the history of the Second World War! Along the way, you will meet not only Lena, but also her two best friends: Ellie, a Jewish refugee, and Karl, a German. Emma will take you on a treasure hunt through the Freedom Museum, full of stories, riddles and educational assignments!

The missing link

A suitcase full of choices gives young visitors the opportunity to discover the museum's broader themes for themselves. Now that the personal link with the Second World War is becoming less and less visible, we are working with Emma to pass on knowledge about the Second World War to the next generation and involve them in the difficult choices young people faced at that time to the next generation. The story is told through the eyes of three teenagers. Entirely in line with the mission and vision of the Freedom Museum, a suitcase full of choices tells a story, in three languages, that transcends boundaries and leaves room for grey areas and nuance.

A Suitcase Full of Choices brings history to life. It's not a book or an app, but an interactive journey through the museum, featuring videos, games and real objects that you can touch. The story for young visitors runs parallel to the adult tour, giving you plenty to discuss afterwards. This makes it perfect for families looking for a meaningful outing. Whether you already know a lot about the Second World War or are exploring the past for the first time with your family, a Suitcase Full of Choices is exciting for everyone. Explore and discover the secrets hidden in the past!

A Suitcase Full of Choices is designed for children aged 9 and above.

To be visited from 6 October 2025.
