Lecture about human rights violations and new exhibition

The Freedom Museum in Groesbeek is organizing a lecture about the human rights violations in Palestine. In the evening of Tuesday, September 30th 2025 legal experts will speak about humanitarian law and the obligations that institutions and states have when it comes to upholding international legal order. On that same evening a new and compact exhibition on the International Criminal Court will open.
The following people will give lectures on September 30th: Dr. Katherine Fortin, university lecturer in humanitarian law, Prof. Dr. Thea Hilhorst, professor of humanitarian studies at the Institute of Social Studies of the Erasmus University Rotterdam, and Lydia de Leeuw, spokesperson for SOMO, Centre for Research on Multinational Corporations. Dr. Fortin will provide an introduction to international humanitarian law. Afterwards the three experts will engage in a discussion on recent violations of humanitarian law in Palestine. Due to Dr. Fortin’s background, her presentation will be in English. The rest of the evening will be in both Dutch and English.
Exhibition
That same evening the Freedom Museum will also open a small exposition about the International Criminal Court. The museum will use this exhibition about the complete history of the ICC to highlight the importance of institutions that help safeguard international humanitarian law. There is more and more pressure on these institutions, but they are important links in the chains of freedom and human rights.
The museum will be open from 7 pm on Tuesday, September 30th. The event will begin at 7:30 pm. It is necessary to sign up beforehand at www.vrijheidsmuseum.nl. The entrance fee for this event is 9 euros per person. The entrance fee for university and high school students is 5 euros. There is no entrance fee for friends of the museum or for people with a Museum Card (Museumkaart) or VriendenLoterij VIP Card.
